RACE REPORT – BURNHAM BEECHES RUN 4 NOVEMBER 2017 

On 4th November, the Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches held the 11th annual Burnham Beeches run, which takes place in the picturesque Burnham Beeches. Over 260 athletes registered for the event which includes races over 10k and 5k.
The morning rain did not dampen the spirits of the runners, although it did make the conditions under foot a little tricky with mud and standing water on the course. This did not hold back John Regan who was first man across the line in the 10K with a time of 39:02. For the women Claire Pusey of local club Burnham Joggers lead home the 10K field finishing in 44:43.
 
In the 5K race, Ian Gutteridge and Vicky Childs were first across the line in 19:27 and 27:10 respectively. We had a great turnout from the junior 5K race this year and Jack Campbell and Izzy Banks took the honours with super-fast times of 21:18 and 25:36.  
 
The proceeds from the event will go to local charities supported by the Rotary Club including a donation to Burnham Beeches National Nature Reserve. Rotary Club President Mike Holehouse offered: “A big thank you to all the runners for taking part and helping us support many local charities. We will be back again next year so remember to make a note in your diaries.” A special mention is also due to runners Glynis Greenough and Adam Frost who between them raised over £700 in sponsorship for Thames Valley Adventure Playground.
 
Staging the event depends on the support of many volunteers. In addition to members of Burnham Beeches Rotary Club, we had great support from other Rotary Clubs and local running clubs JAWS, and Burnham Joggers. Our thanks go to all the volunteers who turned out on a wet day to help make the event a success. We are also very grateful to our sponsors: Farnham Common running store Apex Sports, Tesco, Halsa Chiropractic & Physiotherapy, Face2Face Medical, the Beeches Café and estate agents Hilton King and Locke.
 
The event is organised by Burnham Beeches Rotary Club and all the proceeds will go to support good causes.
